A CONVENTION to create a SHARED civic agenda for a generation
Organized by CITY AWAKE. AS part of HUBWEEK. in partnership with UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS BOSTON.
On October 9th, over 50 organizations of Boston will convene 300 young adults ("delegates") at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate to participate in the first annual Our Convention. Each organization will nominate up to 5 delegates to represent them to ensure diversity and inclusivity.
During Our Convention, delegates will form smaller teams to collaborate and rapid prototype solutions (policy, product, service, etc.) focused on different local issues (transportation improvements, housing affordability, etc.) facing Greater Boston.
After Our Convention, in collaboration with UMass Boston, results from each team will be compiled and included as part of a briefing book and a companion website. The results will be shared with elected officials, industry leaders, issue experts and the broader community.
RAPID PROTOTYPING SOLUTIONS
Delegates will create smaller teams of 5-7 individuals and participate in Design Thinking exercises to rapid prototype solutions to local issues.

Our Convention is an annual convening of hundreds of young adults to collaborate and prototype a shared civic agenda for Generation Y.
Results will be compiled into a briefing book and companion website which will be shared with elected officials, industry leaders, issue experts and the broader community.
Most importantly, our objective for the first annual Our Convention is to break down the silos amongst the many organizations serving young adults and start to build a community and an ongoing coalition to represent young adults in the decision making process of the future of Greater Boston.
Our Convention is not selling tickets or reviewing applications. Instead we are accepting nominations from the community - our nominating organizations and our Co-Chairs. To join as a nominating organization, please email justin@cityawake.is.
If you would like to attend Our Convention and you are not connected to a Co-Chair or nominating organizations, please e-mail justin@cityawake.is. We will do our best to invite everyone interested in attending but we are limited due to venue capacity and will give preference to individuals nominated by nominating organizations and Co-Chairs.
'Rapid Prototyping' in this scenario is synonmyous with 'Design Thinking'. As Forbes describes it, "In its simplest form, design thinking is a process—applicable to all walks of life—of creating new and innovative ideas and solving problems. It can be as effective in technology or education as it may be in services or manufacturing. It could result in new products and services for customers or improved processes and productivity gains for internal operations." Or check out this video here.
Delegates will not need any experience in Design Thinking prior to Our Convention to successfully participate and contribute during the day.
On the MBTA take the Red Line to JFK/UMass station and take Bus #2 (a free shuttle bus) that drops off in front of the Institute. If you will be driving to the EMKI, here are more directions.
